A BEAUTIFUL CLANDESTINE STORY...

The Picofino project took almost 10 years to take shape and come to fruition. It all began in Albuerne, a small village on the Asturian Cantabrian coast (so small it doesn't even have a bar), where a spirits enthusiast, nicknamed "Picofino" by some, sought to create a completely unique gin, using artisanal methods, conducting dozens of tests in small batches that he gave to his friends.

With the help of a distiller friend from Ourense and an old, handcrafted Portuguese copper still, for eight years he released a different gin each year, incorporating the best of the previous year's vintage. This new gin was presented at a summer party at his house for his friends to taste—many of them restaurateurs, bartenders, cocktail makers, and almost all of them compulsive wine lovers. They all agreed: the gin improved every year.

He called it Mio Gin (meaning "his gin"). He produced approximately 100 numbered bottles a year entirely by hand and clandestinely to share for free with his family.

THE BIRTH OF PICOFINO

This is how the idea of ​​creating something different was born, a project that revolved around that gin and that would embody the legacy of more than eight years of testing and refinement. What better name for the new project than a tribute to that summer gathering of connoisseurs: thus, the Picofino Artisan Spirits project was born at the end of 2019.

The soul of the project is Picofino Original Gin, produced in the same artisanal way, and with the same ingredients as the original formula, but when it came time to go to market, it was decided to also create two different and exclusive products from the original gin: Picofino Fabuloso Vermouth Gin Fusion and the surprising and unique Picofino Gin Cream with black truffle, an exclusive spirit that becomes a truly delicious rarity.

MILESTONES

En 2021 We created the new 3-liter double magnum format with a tap for vermouth. And a small batch was exported to Austria for the first time. The first awards arrived.

En 2022Mini versions of the bottles were launched, and, in a real craze, the artisan mussels in Picofino vermouth sauce, which sell out immediately with each new release.

En 2023 The Orange Vermouth is launched, which is used to make the successful Picofino Spritz, and also the Gin and Turrón Cream, another delicious madness.

Today Picofino is sold at El Corte Inglés' Gourmet Club and in over 300 of the finest gourmet shops throughout Spain. Furthermore, thanks to our distributors, we are already available in numerous establishments across much of Spain, including the Canary and Balearic Islands.

Picofino now has facilities in the center of Asturias and a private Picofino Club in Oviedo where we hold events, tastings, presentations and bring the world of Picofino and our philosophy closer to our friends, clients and distributors.
